Honolulu Day Three: Queen's Garden
The highlight of the third day for Woody and I was dinner: okonomiyaki, those Japanese cabbage-meat pancakes that were part of our weekly ritual in Yamaguchi but which are almost impossible to find outside the archipelago. Also, we discovered
Fun Chops. But the
photographic highlight of the day was the flower garden Max and I went to while Woody had a meeting.
Max had spotted a playground on our wanderings (i.e. too many one-way streets) the first day, and it just happened to be two blocks from Woody's meeting (and a block from the zoo: that's where I got the giraffe picture) and next door to a public garden. After some time on the swings, etc., Max and I walked over and, armed with my two digital cameras, explored color for a while.
The hibiscus is the state flower
You can't beat hibiscus for variety of color and endurance, but for both form and fragrance, I kind of prefer the plumeria. Haven't gotten the one in our yard to blossom yet, though.
Some more interesting colors and shapes....
