Honolulu: Hotel and Environs
We finally took a vacation! Of course, living in Hilo, we didn't have to go far: four nights in the heart of Waikiki, right on the beach. One advantage to being local is
kama'aina [long-time resident] rates, which saved us a bit and probably got us an upgrade to an ocean-view room.
Here's the view from the balcony down to the surf. The sea wall was a great boon: Max wasn't too keen on waves at first, but by the last day we were rolling around in the heavier surf. | In spite of being halfway up the tower, not a crumb dropped on the balcony but was cleaned up by the local birds |

We spent quite a bit of time down on the waterfront, both in the water and wandering around. The statue was just steps from the hotel, and the sunsets were also seen from right across the street. Note the large number of people watching the sunset with us in the picture below. Also, the tiki torches aren't really blazes; just a slow exposure. | |
