  Kites, Costumes and Kindergarten
We met Max's friend Kaj and family yesterday afternoon (a "park and pizza" date), and they had brought kites. We have one which I keep in the trunk, too, and it was a perfect day for it. Max was particularly fond of the way the kite looked higher than the moon (on the left).

Max rediscovered an old, old costume recently. It's not one that he ever wore for Halloween, actually, but given his love for costumes and pretend, it's a bit surprising it's taken him this long. It's a 2T size....
We had one of those "dog walk" mornings today: Woody got up with him at 5-something, and then tagged me in at 6:30. We went for a long wander (see the flower pictures below) which included the local park. Max learned to play Tic Tac Toe a while back, and we played for a while in between sliding, etc.
It's the Hawaiian Pumpkin!

Our big excitement today is that Max is working on reading. After breakfast he put on the Sesame Street "word family" song ("You take a P that's a 'puh' and an ET 'et'; put them all together and you get 'pet'...), and he was having so much fun making up his own combinations that Woody suggested Hop on Pop, which they sang their way through. Then Max suggested they get out the phonics books -- he looked at them a few months back, then we put them aside -- and made it most of the way through the first two. He's working on #3 as I write this....

Comments:
whoa, that still fits him? Quite a familiar-looking pumpkin outfit. Cool news on the reading! ("Stop! You must not Hop on Pop.")

Great pictures. Will print them out later and take to Grandpa Vic. The beautiful top picture looks like it could have been Erika at that age with the long flowing blond hair in back. Thanks for including me (as grandpa says) "in the loop". Love to all.
